2 houses won today, 2 houses lost. Is the glass half-empty of half-full? Depends on which one you’re living in.

The bizarre reality of this auction never ceases to baffle. Such aching finality. Such insulting impersonality. Such waste.

And yet, there are victories too. We almost missed a win because the treasurer confirmed but did not finalize a deposit and locked the account from bidding. Frantic phone calls and a trip downtown yielded a resolution 10 minutes before bidding closed, then a bidding war ensued. And then calm, with our bid on top.

Even when it works, this is no way to buy a house. This is no way to run a city. This is what you get for trying to ride the bull.
